An invasive cardiologist, Dr. Varner is a 1999 graduate of the University of Osteopathic Medicine& Health Sciences, Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his internship and residency at Botsford General Hospital, Farmington Hills, Michigan, as well as a fellowship in Cardiology also at Botsford General Hospital.

Dr. Varner’s professional interests include all aspects of echocardiography, vascular imaging, nuclear imaging, pacemaker and defibrillator implanting.

Dr. Varner is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and in Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Varner also has certification by the American Society of Echocardiology. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Osteopathic Internists.

Along with Munson Medical Center, Dr. Varner has privileges with Mercy Health Services North–Grayling.

He lives in Traverse City with his family.
